REACH stands for Response, Early intervention and Assessment in Community mental Health. It is the team that sits between a school and the Institute of Mental Health: staffed by mental health professionals, and built to work with schools and families rather than only inside a clinic.
Referral is usually through the school. If a teacher, a school counsellor or the school itself has already flagged a concern, REACH is very often where it goes next.
The teams received around 1,500 referrals a year from schools over the period to 2023, which says something about how established the route already is, even though most parents have never heard the name until they need it.
This page is information, not medical advice. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace an assessment by a qualified professional. If you are in crisis, call 995 or one of the helplines listed on this site.
