Change log

The Ministry of Health confirmed in a parliamentary reply dated 7 May 2026 that mandatory registration for psychologists will be introduced under the Allied Health Professions Act. Five subdisciplines are covered: clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, counselling psychology, educational psychology and forensic psychology.

What changes

The five titles become reserved. Practitioners who are not registered will not be permitted to use them in any context, including advertisements and service agreements. A public register of registered psychologists will be published, the Allied Health Professions Council will enforce a code of professional conduct, and enforcement action can be taken against false claims of registration.

What has not been confirmed

No implementation date has been published. The position of counsellors and psychotherapists, who are not among the five subdisciplines, was not addressed. Practitioners who are not registered will not be required to state that they are unregistered.
